GO! St. Louis Marathon, formerly the Spirit of St. Louis Marathon debuted in October 2000. The race held in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, was changed from an October race to an April race in 2003. GO! St. Louis Family Fitness Weekend, held in April each year, attracts over 25,000 participants internationally. The event is Missouri’s largest competitive fitness event and includes a marathon, half marathon, marathon relay, 5K run/walk, children’s fun runs and a mature mile. The race is a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The GO! St. Louis Half Marathon presented by PNC Bank was introduced in 2003 and has become the most popular race during the two-day weekend. More than 13,500 individuals registered in 2011, making it one of the largest half marathon fields in the United States.

Registration

Online registration for the GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend opens on September 4, 2012 and remains open until March 29, 2013. Registration will be ONLINE ONLY, no paper entry forms are available. Expo registration only available if race is not sold out.

The entry fees is $75 for the marathon, $70 for the half marathon, $220 for the marathon relay, $25 for the 5K and $10 for the mature mile and fun runs, if registered earlier. To participate in GO! St. Louis Marathon you can register in the official website.

The race is capped at 3,000 participants for the marathon, 12,000 for the half marathon and 500 four-person teams (2,000 total) for the marathon relay.  The 5K Run/Walk is capped at 3,000 participants. The Children’s Fun Runs and Mature Mile are capped at 500 participants.

The marathon course starts and finishes in the historic St. Louis downtown area. As you begin the race, participants head toward the impressive Gateway Arch, before turning south and heading for the famed Anheuser-Busch brewery. The course also includes Union Station, City Garden, Forest Park (larger than New York’s Central Park), Washington University, City of Clayton, University City Loop (Voted one of the top ten streets in America), before heading down Market Street and the finish line.

Participants in the half marathon start at the same time as marathon and marathon relay participants. Half marathoners share the same course until the 9-mile mark, where they turn and head back towards downtown.

Time Limits and Cutoffs

Marathon: The course route re-opens to traffic at a rolling schedule according to a 6.5-hour marathon pace or (14:52 minutes per mile).  Half Marathoners must maintain a 14:52 minute per mile pace through 9 miles (Vandeventer and Forest Park Ave). There will be a pace leader leading a 6 hour 30 minute marathon pace or 3 hour 15 minute half marathon pace (14:52 minutes per mile).  The time limit will begin when the 6:30 marathon pace group crosses the start line after the start of the race.

The race is timed using the Chrono Track “B tag” system.

Water Stops

Water and Gatorade available at 17 aid stations along the marathon course, as well as at the start and finish. GU Energy gel (Tri-Berry and Vanilla) will be available along the course.

Prize Money/ Awards

More than $45,000 will be awarded in prize money this year, which includes a $10,000 top prize for the overall men’s and women’s winner in the Half Marathon.  The Half Marathon award is one of the largest for a 13.1 mile race in the United States. Athletes vying for prize money will be judged on gun time, while age group awards will be issued based upon tag (chip) time.

Wheelchair (Marathon only): 1st $300
Marathon Course Record Bonus: $1,000 (first overall only)

Half Marathon:
Overall: 1st $10,000, 2nd $5,000, 3rd $2,000
Masters (40+): 1st $200, 2nd $150, 3rd $100

Marathon Relay:
Awards for 3 deep in male, female, coed in the following categories: corporate, family/friends.

The weather on race day is unpredictable. The average start temp in early April is in the low to mid 40’s, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 60’s.
