Salwan Marathon is organised in New Delhi, India. BORN TO RUN. Be a part of the world’s largest race for school children. Having entered the Limca Book of Records for the largest marathon of its kind in the country, the 18th edition of the Salwan Marathon in Delhi had 48000 students from over 800 schools, 1800 visually impaired students and 200 differently abled students participating in the marathon. Inder Dutt Salwan, chief architect of the Salwan Marathon, started the run in 1995 with a budget of Rs. 2500 and only 300 students.
The marathon brings together school students from various parts of India as well as neighboring countries for the sheer joy of running. The main aim is to inculcate a spirit of sports amongst the youth of this country and teach them all the educational values through sports. A tremendous initiative to promote running as a sport in the country, the marathon aims to re-define the character of Delhi as a sports centric city.
At the 20th edition of the run, participants and winners across each category will be made to undergo a dope and age verification test. For under 18 Boys category, GPS enabled chip timing has been introduced this year. NO CHIP – NO PRIZE. The chip is available on the day of the run from 7:30 am – 10 am only o 1st come – 1st Serve basis. This system allows a runner to attach a ‘chip’ to his shoe and pass all the points located on the route which will mark his speed, distance and route travelled. Multiple cameras located on the route will further strengthen the accuracy of ‘fair’ play being adhered by the runners.
The most popular marathon for school kids is coming back this year on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
So, don’t just sit back and relax, come out and participate in the Salwan Marathon.
