The “Ruta De Las Iglesias” or “Church Trail” is a 10 Km race, held in Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Quito is located 2,850m above sea level, and is surrounded by snow-capped volcanoes. The first edition of the race in 2005 was the first nocturnal race (held at night time) in Ecuador. The participants run past 11 beautiful churches during the race and so the race is named “Ruta De Las Iglesias” which means “Path of the Churches”. 33% of the funds of the race is given to Special Olympics Society in Ecuador.

Course / Route Map
The route is a comfortable mix of hills and flats along its 10km length. Even for the most experienced runners it is a challenge to run in the altitudes of the city. There are short and steep hills within the first 2kms.The surface is mostly flat after the first 3kms and the runners go out of the colonial centre of Quito into the modern part of the city. In the last few kilometres one can see fireworks in the sky.
