Pune International Marathon is conducted by the Pune International Marathon Committee under the aegis of the Athletic Federation of India (AFI), Pune, Maharashtra, India. The first edition of the race began in 1983. The event also organizes a short celebrity run in which film personalities and national athletes participate and raise money for charitable causes. The event committee has chosen a noble theme — ‘Save the girl child and her future’ and the event is capped at 250 participants. All the money collected from this race is donated to Project Concern International – a widely respected NGO working towards HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention in Pune.

Registration
The registration process will be online and the forms can be downloaded from the official website. They will also be available at the District Amateur Athletics Association K Block. To participate in Pune International Marathon you can register in the official website.
Course / Route Map
It starts from Alka Talkies Chowk. The 42.195 km route is designed in such a fashion that lakhs of spectators can line the route and be an integral part of the event. The race concludes at Nehru Stadium ground. The course takes the runners through Pot Suliya Maruthi Mandir, Motichand Premchand Maternity Hospital, Council Hall, Kalyani Bridge 6 And 7 Pole, Ganesh Mangal Kendra, Ambedkar Colony, BEG Chowk, Kirloskar Employment Gate 2, Chajjad Petrol Pump, Millenium Gate, Film & TV Institute Gate, Navlakha Complex and Darpan Laboraties to reach the finishing point.

I participated in the 27th PIM that was conducted yesterday,2nd DEC’12.
My personal experience of the marathon was very bad and i believe
many of the other participants would agree with me on this.
The management of the marathon
was not something that one expects at an international event, though this is my first
time at pune marathon, i dont know wether it has always been like this…
it was clearly mentioned on the website that the time alotted for half marathon would be
4hrs and despite that the roads were opened to the traffic as early as 9:00am…though there were
traffic cops manning important junctions,it hardly made any sense because at any international
event the traffic restrictions are imposed for the entire race duration.
Around 2hrs 20 minutes into the race, the RFID tag sensor mats were removed and the event organisers
started to wrap up as if the event was over…a few ladies stationed in a small makeshift booth were making manual
entries and no -one bothered to keep a check on the participants who came post 2hrs 30 minutes.
The organisers were reluctant when asked about the completion time and timing certificates , as more and more people
gathered to enquire about the same, the organisers fled the spot saying that no further queries would be entertained,
“in case of any doubts/queries kindly approach marathon bhavan at mitra mandal chowk ” they said….and
when we reached the said place, we were turned away from the gate itself!…
shame on the organisers..please dont fool people in the name of PIM..

I had called a few weeks back to the marathon bhavan in Pune, and they had told me that there is indeed full marathon, half as well as 10km for men!
