Navi Mumbai Barefoot Half Marathon (NM BHM) is held at Kharghar Central Park in Kharghar. Last year, 306 runners took part in barefoot run, creating a Guinness World Record. Anand Anantharaman, managing trustee of the NGO by name Barefoot Runners of India Foundation, who are the organizers, says that this year, 1000 barefoot runners will take part, breaking last year’s Guinness World Record.

Worldwide, after the publication of Christopher MacDaugall’s best-seller “Born to Run”, barefoot running has been catching the fancy of many runners. ‘Barefoot Ted,’ one of the main characters in ‘Born to Run’ is the Brand Ambassador for NM BHM and will be running barefoot in November. Celebrity runner Milind Soman is the chief guest, who will also be running for the first time without running shoes. “As my feet and ankles have increased in strength and conditioning, I don’t think I will feel the need to run in a conventional running shoe in the future,” says Milind Soman, who has already discarded regular running shoes.
