The Mukteshwar Marathon is held in Mukteshwar, Nainital District, Uttarakhand, India. The run will start and end at Mukteshwar. Mukteshwar is at 2286 Mts above sea level so you can expect that during most part of the runs you will be at an elevation of 2000 to 2200 Mts. This makes it a challenging race but one with breathtaking views of the snow capped Himalayan peaks. The events include Half Marathon and 5K Dream Run.
The inspiration to bring this race to the people of Kumaon actually comes from the five Himalayan peaks (Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Nandaghunti, Trishul and Panchachuli) that are visible from Mukteshwar and from many points on the running route. The people behind the race are avid runners themselves. The proceeds of the race benefit an NGO ‘Chirag’ which is based in Mukteshwar.
