Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon is one of the most popular marathon events in India and has earned itself the laurels of being one of the best technically organised event. The event has produced leading women athletes like Asha Aggarwal, Sunita Godara, Suman Mehta Rawat, and Rigzen Angmo. This Indian open marathon was started in the year 1982, to coincide with the IX Asian Games. Gaining popularity in the initial years as Rath Marathon, the event was rechristened in 2006. Today, it occupies a special place in the sports calendar of Athletics Federation Of India (AFI) which not only provides recognition but is also responsible for the technical conduct of the event.

Online registration for 2013 event opened Jan 9th, and can be done on the event website here (entry fees Rs 50/- only, to be paid at the time of BIB collection on Feb 16th).

Course / Route Map
The route runs through the heart of Delhi, starting very close to the India Gate. For the runners participating in the main Marathon event, the circular route of 10.49 kms shall be repeated four times to complete the necessary 42.197 kms, while for the Half Marathon participants, circular route shall be repeated two times.
The Marathon route goes past some of the finest parts of Delhi, showcasing historic and important places such as India Gate, Parliament House, All India Radio, Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place. The marathon is usually conducted in the month of February. This time of the year is perfect for running, with a slight nip in the air. The Marathon witnesses active participation from thousands of enthusiasts, including members of the armed and paramilitary forces, state athletic associations, sports bodies and students from across the country.
The official traffic arrangements provided for the Marathon by the Delhi Traffic Police will be terminated after 4.00 hours of the start of the race.

finally we got the certificates, thanks a lot to mawana, but not the pics yet.
MY BIB IS 02403 BUT WHEN I WRITE MY BIB NO. THERE SOME ONE ELSE CERTIFICATE IS OPEN MAWANA IT DEPARTMENT IS VERY POOR STILL NOT I FOUND MY CERTIFICATE…..:(

This was my first Marathon so I don’t have the prior experience of the same. One of my friend ,he has run many, told me that organizers provide lemon, glucose and other health drinks time to time. I personally felt that it was not up to the mark as was not organized well.
I think Mawana marathan timing chip not captured the time that why , mawana sugar mills management not declaring the timing result and particpate certficate.

Participants were very excited about the race but the management of MAWANA Sugars was very poor. On kit issuing day there was only one counter for verifying the name which was really disgusting. Many many peoples not found there registered name in the list because of the typing or entry mistakes of MAWANA sugars and the arrange to solve these types of problem was irritating . On the day when the race was held MAWANA’s staff distribute the medals even to those participants who run only 2 or 3 kilometers result of that is they had no any medals for the complete runner which frustrate the peoples. At that time they promise to give the medals after two days in their head office situated at rajendra place, Delhi but even after eight days they don’t have any medals for the complete runners.
MANAGEMENT WAS POOR.

Respected Sir,
I ,Sanyukta Jadhav from Mumbai, Maharashtra, had registered for the half marathon under the veterans(W40+) category. I am a regular marathon runner and have won all the marathons I ran this year in the above stated category including the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. I was looking forward at participating in your marathon as you had a veterans 40+ category, but unfortunately and to my inconvenience your management was awful.
In the first place I was not given the correct chest number (bib number) which according to my registration was 1968,to top that they later issued me a number in open category which was 01169, and later when I approached them for a veterans bib number they told me there is no such facility.
In-turn I approached management committee, which further misguided in the same disgusting manner.
This was a very disappointing encounter especially keeping in mind all the efforts I had taken in coming all the way to Delhi, and stayed there alone for three days and in spite of all that I was not able to participate.I am writing this email to inform you my experience which in no means was even close to decent , and this I am doing so that in future you do not disrespect any more athletes.

I run and got good experience. but the organised is not so well what i expected. The managment is too poor to organise the glucose, lemon, medals and so on. still i did not get the certificate on line as well as by post. Pl. you may look after this matter for better organise in next time.

Indeed, my chest number was 1972, which got mixed up with your name! I can see your chest bib no both under 1952 and 1972. I have no clue whom to contact for changing the name and get a proper certificate. AFI refused and they say the bib numbers are allotted by Mawana race management. There is no contact email/telephone/address for redressal.

I’ve participated in half marathon on 17Feb.My chest no. is 09077.The atmosphere was full of josh and energitic.Everything was fine except one thing regarding medal distribution.I have completed the race in 3 hrs 40 min and when I asked for medal ,the organisers told me it was finished.Later I came to know that those who hasn’t completed the race they also have got the medal due to their leniancy.This is very discouraging for an event like this.I hope the organisers will look into this matter so that next time every genuine finisher got the medal
