Rome Marathon is an annual marathon hosted by the city of Rome, Italy in March. The competition has also doubled as the Italian Marathon championships on two occasions; in 1983 and 1986. The 2010 race was held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Abebe Bikila’s win at the 1960 Rome Olympic marathon race and the winner, Siraj Gena, crossed the finish line barefoot in honour of Abebe Bikila’s style. The events include Marathon and Roma Fun 4K.

Registration
The entry fees is € 40 for early registrations. Free entry for those athletes who have finished all 17 editions of Maratona di Roma. To participate in Rome Marathon you can register in the official website.
Course / Route Map 
The route is almost totally flat. The cobblestones are located mostly at the start (first 2 kilometres) and at the finish (last 4, yet spotted with asphalt sections). In the aggregate, there are less that 7 kms of cobbled street. The course heads the runners through Colosseum and the Roman Forum, Piazza Venezia and the Altar of the Fatherland, the Theatre of Marcellus, the Mouth of Truth, the Circus Maximum, St. Paul’s Gate and the Pyramid of Cestius, the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, St. Peter’s Square, the Vatican Walls, The “Foro Italico” and the Olympic Stadium. And Piazza Navona, Via del Corso, the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo and its twin churches, Piazza Navona and the Trevi Fountain.
