Honolulu Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the world which takes place in Honolulu, Hawaii in December. It is one of the world’s largest marathons, taking place annually on the second Sunday in December. It is also known as one of the most beautiful sporting events in the world. The first marathon was held in 1973, and the event has grown rapidly since then. More than 60% of the field is from Japan, with an estimated 25,000 finishers every year.

You can register on the official website of Honolulu Marathon. The registration fees for the international runners is $ 230, for runners from U.S, the fees is $ 165 .

Course / Route Map

Starting near Ala Moana Beach Park across from Ala Moana Center, the course progresses west along the waterfront toward downtown Honolulu, then loops through downtown and bends back east through Waikiki, around Diamond Head, and out toward the eastern suburbs of Honolulu, winding through Hawaii Kai before doubling back toward the finish line at Waikiki’s Kapiolani Park. Marathoners consider the course moderately difficult because of the tropical weather conditions. Nevertheless, the race also remains a popular choice for first-time marathoners.

The Honolulu Marathon course is mostly flat with the exception of Diamond Head. The highest point on the course is 124 feet above sea level near mile 9.

T-Shirts, Medals, Certificates

The Honolulu Marathon finisher shirt and medal are for finishers only and must be picked up at Kapiolani Park on Race Day. Finisher certificates will be available for pickup at Kapiolani Park on Monday, December 9 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Water Stops & Refreshments

There will also be 16 aid stations located along the course serving water and sports drink and providing professional medical assistance. Gatorade – Lemon Lime flavor.

Expected Race Day Weather

Temperature at the start can be in the mid 60’s and climb to the low 80’s by 10:00 AM.

A waiter on Oahu informed us we could sign up for the 2012 Marathon for only 26.00 dollars (for a certain time). Is that/was that true? When was the expiration?
