From the first run in 2006, when a handful of runners ran from Alwarpet to Muttukadu, Chennai Runners Half Marathon has come a long way. This annual running event will be conducted in the sprawling and beautiful campus of IIT Madras and expects participation of more than 1000 runners. The minimum age for 10K event is 12 years and half marathon is 18 years. One of the hallmarks of the event is the fact that it is organized by runners who understand and appreciate the needs of runners. Elaborate arrangements have been to make this run a memorable one for you. All proceeds from the event are being donated to Deepam which is an NGO working to empower lesser-privileged children with access to information and opportunity.

Much of the campus is a protected forest, carved out of the Guindy National Park, home to chital (spotted deer), black buck, other wildlife and a natural lake. The 10K runners will run once along the loop while the half marathoners will do the loop twice. The run will start and end at the Open Air Theatre – OAT (near Gajendra Circle – 2.3kms from the IIT main entrance on Sardar Patel road). Clear markings and mile-markers will be placed along the route and volunteers will be present at all the major diversions to guide the runners.
