22nd Sugar Beet Classic Triathlon Results

The Sugar Beet Classic is the start of a week-long event. The 22nd annual Sugar Beet Classic was a huge success.

The Powell Medical Foundation’s Heartland Golf Classic takes place this Saturday at the Powell Golf Club. Registration for the tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. at the course.

Men’s under 20 division — Quin Wetzel 1:24:20 (6:55 swim, 54:20 bike, 23:05 run)

Men’s 20-39 division — 1. Ladell Merritt 1:06:19 (7:06 swim, 39:39 bike, 19:34 run — overall men’s champion), 2. Ben Zeller 1:23:40, 3. Robert Muller 1:24:14, 4. Kyle Cox 1:33:00.

Chinese Liu Wins Genghis Khan Extreme Marathon

A total of 122 runners from over 10 countries and regions took part in full marathon, half marathon and 10km race.

Chinese Liu Yong and Canadian Mary-Anne Graham won the men’s and women’s marathon respectively in Genghis Khan Extreme Marathon that ended in vast Xiwuqi grassland on Saturday.

Liu clocked two hours, 45 minutes and 45 seconds for the men’s crown and Graham took the women’s title in 4:10:47.

A total of 122 runners from over 10 countries and regions took part in full marathon, half marathon and 10km race.

The route is breathtakingly beautiful and many runners took pictures while running.

Some runners, who originally raced for the half marathon, continued running and joined the full marathon.

Torbjorn Pettersson, event director, said: “Grassland marathon is designed to challenge and relax. Since they don’t want to stop, just let them go on running and enjoying.”

Kangogo, Perkins Win At Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon

Lethbridge’s resident Kenyan, Kip Kangogo, and Washington State’s Ruth Perkins both ran canny, intelligent races this morning to claim victory at the 13th annual Scotiabank Vancouver Half marathon in front of a record field of 4,815.

Geoffrey Mutai, Caroline Kilel Win Inaugural B.A.A. 10K In Boston

Starting and finishing in Boston Common, 3,060 runners competed along Commonwealth Avenue and past Boston University, before making the turn-around at Babcock Street and heading back to the finish.

Two familiar faces emerged at the clear victors in today’s race. Geoffrey Mutai from Kenya, the reining 2011 Boston Marathon, pulled away from the field near the four mile mark to take a lead which he wouldn’t relinquish – winning comfortably in a time of 27:19.

On the women’s side, defending Boston Marathon champion and Kenyan Caroline Kilel made a similar move near the four mile mark to win in 31:58. Both runners took home not only the $5,000 cash prize for first place, but further solidified themselves in Boston running lore.

South Coast Half-Marathon 2011 Results – Collins/Philley Win

Anthony Collins of North Bend won the third-annual South Coast Half-Marathon last weekend during the Jennifer’s Catching Slough Classic and set a new course record in the process.

Collins covered the 13.1-mile course in 1 hour, 30 minutes and 33 seconds.

Collins finished 21 seconds ahead of Doug Veysey of Myrtle Point. John Gunther of Coquille was third, finishing in 1:36:45.

Michelle Philley of Coquille was the top woman and fifth overall in 1:45:50. She was followed by Tracy Heley of North Bend, the top female masters runner, who set a new course record by finishing in 1:50:03. Tanya Sinko was third among women in 1:59:52.

Western States 100 Results – Jornet, Greenwood Win Title

Auburn, California, June 25 – Kilian Jornet of Spain is the winner of the 38th annual Western States 100 miler Endurance Run. Jornet bested Mike Wolfe in a tight duel over the last 22 miles, maintaining a small lead throughout, and won by four minutes.

In the women’s race, Ellie Greenwood put on a late surge to pass Kami Semick at the 95 mile mark and win in 17:55:33. Greenwood’s time was the second fastest women’s time in race history. Semick and three-time winner Nikki Kimball waged a fierce sprint on the track with Semick outkicking Kimball by about 10 yards for second. Meghan Arbogast broke the women’s 50-59 age group record by more than 3 hours.

Izzard Wins Ventura City Impact Half Marathon

Ventura’s Noah Izzard, 31, won the Ventura City Impact half-marathon on Saturday in 1 hour, 18 minutes, 31 seconds.

Ventura’s Brent Turner, 17, placed second at 1:27:16.

Long Beach female Stacey Flores, 20, was third at 1:30. Barry Molony, 60, of Oxnard was fourth in 1:31:22 and Rick Kanatzar was fifth at 1:33:05.

Cody Barton Wins Inaugural Vancouver Marathon USA Marathon

Eastern Washington University distance runner Cody Barton won the inaugural Vancouver USA Marathon on Sunday (June 19) in Vancouver, Wash.

Barton, who is from nearby Ridgefield, Wash., and graduated in 2008 from Ridgefield High School, had a time of 2:37:40 to win by nearly 10 minutes. It was his first-ever marathon.

Barton redshirted this past outdoor season at Eastern, where he specializes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His best time in that event as a freshman was 9:28.58.

He has competed the past two indoor seasons, and has a career-best 8:25.84 time in the 3,000 meters, which ranks 10th in school history. He placed 31st at the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships in 2010 (third-best for EWU) and 41st as a freshman.

Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon 2011 Results – Richfield’s Steve Sander Wins

After a one-year hiatus, the Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon returned to Excelsior over the weekend and Richfield’s Steve Sander was the top overall finisher.

Sander completed the 18-mile course in 1:05:58. Sander, who also won the Lake Minnetonka Triathlon in 2009, recently became a dad for the first time and said Saturday’s win would make his first Father’s Day all the more memorable.

Saturday’s course, which saw more than 430 athletes from throughout Minnesota and from as far away as California, Virginia and Florida, tested competitors with a half-mile swim, followed by a 14.5-mile bike ride and finally a three-mile sprint.

Johnny Miles Running Event Marathon 2011 Results

Dave MacLennan won the Johnny Miles Running Event full marathon, finishing more than seven minutes ahead of his nearest competitor despite feeling a bit slow. His next closest competitor was Scott Clark of Summerside who came in at a time of 2:53:46.

Finishing first for the women was Beth Ellen Brown of Charlottetown with a time of 3:29:44. Scotsburn’s Janet Fraser was the top local woman in the marathon with a time of 4:09:11.

Registration numbers were down a bit this with 1,860 registered for Sunday’s events – about 40 fewer than last year. About 600 kids took part in Saturday’s events and another 200 people did the Johnny walk.
