Nike Continues to Disappoint Women

Run Infinity previously reported Nike made a controversial decision when it announced the cancelling of the 2016 Nike Women’s Half Marathon San Francisco. As one of the most popular races among women, this decision was very disappoint to many of our blog followers. Today, Run Infinity learned of two more big Nike races aimed at women that have been removed from the slate of upcoming races in 2016.

Major United States Cities Pulled from NikeWomen Victory Tour

A few months ago, Nike made a major announcement regard its international tour of races. This renamed tour of races would be called the Nike Women Victory Tour and have races spread around the world in world cities such as Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney, Taipei, London, Manilla, and many others. On June 8, Run Infinity received word directly from Nike that the Atlanta and Los Angeles events are cancelled for 2016. As it stands, there will not be any NikeWomen Victory Tour races held in the United States in 2016.

International Cities Pulled from NikeWomen Victory Tour

Our initial coverage of the NikeWomen Victory Tour indicates a significant number of sites to host events around the world. Some of the sites we specifically mentioned in our first article are the following:

This is a total of 20 sites to host these great events. As of June 8, the NikeWomen Victory Tour has been updated to show the following host cities for 2016:

This updated list indicates that Nike has reduced its number of races planned for 2016 from 20 down to 15. Sites to no longer host a NikeWomen Victory Tour event are Los Angeles, Atlanta, Barcelona, Guangzhou, and London.

Comments from Nike About Their Decision

Run infinity reached out to Nike Media relations about their decision. Regarding the cancellation of the Los Angeles and Atlanta events, Nike indicated “We’re committed to serving athletes with the most innovative, motivating, and exciting events in Los Angeles and Atlanta. With that, and toprovide the best experience for athletes we’re looking forward to what we can bring to the city throughout the year, including weekly Nike+ Run Club (NRC) sessions which offer an open invitation for all athletes to ‘Come Run With Us’.

When asked about future Victory Tour races happening in 2016 and their dates, Nike responded, “Currently there are no plans for a NikeWomen Victory Tour in Los Angeles or Atlanta in 2016. We continue to invite all atheltes to run with us in Los Angeles through our ongoing Nike+ Run Club (NRC) offerings.”

From talking with many of our readers, we know that this news is a further stab in your heart: our female readership absolutely loves the NikeWomen event series and for those of you located in the United State, this news combined with the previous news about the cancellation of Nike Women’s Half Marathon San Francisco, means you will likely not be able to participate in one of these great events in 2016.
