On June 1, 2016, runners all around the world will celebrate running by doing what we do best- Running! So far more than 1.9 million runners from 155 countries have pledged to participate.
Running with a Purpose
While this event will get runners outside or on the treadmill doing what they love, it has an even greater purpose. Global Running Day is asking for runners to pledge to run on Global Running Day. The event also seeks spread the awareness as a fun, family oriented activity to get more than 1 million kids to run on Global Running Day as well.
According to Global Running Day, “the key is to share your passion for the sport and to inspire others to get moving”. This is an issue of ever growing importance as modern comforts made sedentary lifestyles a commonplace.
Do What You Can
To participate in Global Running Day, there are no minimum requirements. According to the Global Running Day website,”(your run) can be a solo lap around the block, a long run with friends, or even a game of tag with your kids”. This philosophy is critical to achieving the events mission: spreading awareness and appreciation of running. Some of us are very fit and can run a marathon while others feel accomplished by running to the end of the block- regardless of how far you run, you will be taking steps to improve your health- both physical and mental.
Spreading the Word
To date, Global Running Day has primarily relied on social media and organic word of mouth to spread the word. If you are interested in spreading the word of this great event, take a look at the communication resources that can be found on the events website.
So far, the event has garnered support from a variety of major players in running:
- World Marathon Majors
- Active For Life
- Atlanta Track Club
- Bejing Athletic Association
