(25-Oct) — In yet another sign of the strong market for big-city marathon entries, the 2013 BMW Berlin Marathon sold 40,000 entries today in three and one-half hours, completely filling their recreational field.  Organizers reported that within the first two and one-half minutes, 10,000 entries were sold for what will be the 40th edition of Germany’s largest marathon.

“Last year it took six weeks to sell out,” the event’s media director Thomas Steffens said in a brief press release.

The marathon, which is scheduled for Sunday, September, 29, had 34,348 finishers this year, up from 32,997 in 2011.  The race is best known for its flat, fast course.  Eight marathon world records have been set there, including the current men’s record of 2:03:38 by Kenya’s Patrick Makau.
