Yesterday was the lottery drawing for the 2012 ING NYC Marathon, and there was actually a live feed for the event here. The date for the 2012 New York City Marathon is Nov 4th. About 140,000 runners applied for the 50,000 available spots.
On Wednesday thousands of runners tuned in to the New York Road Runners’ Marathon Opening Day ceremony to see if they had won the lottery, earning a spot in the 2012 ING New York City Marathon on November 4.
Unfortunately, most runners will have to wait until Thursday to see if they have a spot through the lottery in next November’s race. So many people went to the NYRR website to check the lottery results that the system went down during the day. Some runners, however, learned that they’ll be headed to New York in the fall because the entrance fee was charged to their credit card on Wednesday.
