New Zealand’s top triathletes interrupt their altitude training for the London Olympics to take on the Wanaka leg of the national triathlon series on Friday.
Among those lining up in Wanaka will be Kris Gemmell, winner of the triathlon World Cup in Auckland last November, fellow New Zealander Ryan Sissons, Canadian Simon Whitfield who won a gold medal at the Sydney games, and world No 7 Frenchman Laurent Vidal.
The women’s race is headed by world No 2 Andrea Hewitt, who has already qualified for the Olympics, and London hopeful Debbie Tanner.
Intense competition in the 750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run event is guaranteed, despite most athletes currently training at altitude.
