With five months to go, the Savannah Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon has signed up more than 10,000 runners, beating even early, optimistic projections.
The numbers took a giant jump June 1, which was National Running Day, when 3,300 people responded to a marketing campaign that offered discounts for people who signed up early, said Joe Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah.
Initial projections called for a total of 10,000 to 12,000 participants in the event new to the city and scheduled for Nov. 5.
Now, that number is expected to grow to 15,000 to 17,000.
