Lineth Chepkurui of Kenya won the women’s race at the Lilac Bloomsday 12K Run is a new world record time of 38:10 for the distance. The men’s race was won by countryman Peter Kirui in 34:28.
The Lilac Bloomsday 12K Run is an annual road race in Spokane, Washington, held on the first Sunday of every May since 1977 and is one of the largest road races in the world. The 2010 event is the 34th edition of the run and registration count crossed 55,000 including runners, walkers and joggers taking part in the various runs.

51,259 registered, the highest total since 2002 and finisher totals also grew again to 45,477. Addition of a US citizen purse of $20,000 resulted in a number of Americans finishing among the top 25, including Dan Browne in fifth and local star Forest Braden in 12th. Braden’s time of 35:45 was the fastest ever by a Spokane resident. John Yuda of Tanzania became the first non-Kenyan winner in 15 years, Lineth Chepkurui repeated as women’s champion, and Krige Schabort and Amanda McGrory captured the wheelchair titles.
