Tola Tadesse wins Paris Marathon with a 9 minute PR!

Latest news: Tola Tadesse (Ethiopia) wins the 34th edition of the Paris Marathon in 2:06:37. More results coming as the first few runners cross the finish line. Tola Tadesse has been a half marathon specialist till now, and this is his first real big attempt at the full distance, and what a start to his marathon career! His previous marathon best has been a pedestrian 2:15 at last years Chicago Marathon, so this is definitely his breakthrough performance.

The women’s race was won by defending champion Atsede Bayisa of Ethiopia in a stellar performance of 2:22:02, which is a new course record at Paris. This was also a personal best for Bayisa. Christelle Daunay of France bettered her 3rd place finish from last year at Paris to finish 2nd.

About 40,000 runners had registered for this years event, setting a new record. Some stats from the event, which indicate that this years run was relatively slower compared to last years in terms of top finishers:

• only 1 runner recorded sub 2:07 time (6 in 2009)
• 8 runners recorded sub 2:09 times (11 in 2009)
