Rotterdam Paris Marathons 2010

Paris Marathon 2010 Preview

This year will see running of the 34th edition of the Paris Marathon. One of the largest and most popular marathons in Europe, a record 40,000 participants have registered for the event, to be run on Apr 11th. The current course record at the event of 2:05:47 for mens marathon belongs to Vincent Kipruto of Kenya, who ran this sizzling time in the last years run.

The 2009 race was a record setting date as far as Paris marathon is concerned. A record 6 runners finished under a time of 2:07 (equaling London 2008), and 11 under 2:09 (new record).

This year will see another strong field, with 10 runners having a PB of under 2:09 (and not to forget, last year saw 8 out of top 10 finishers running a PB!). The key contenders this year are James Rotich (PB 2:07:12) and Benjamin Kiptoo (PB 2:07:17)  from Kenya. The women’s field is headed by last years winner Atsede Bayisa (PB 2:24:42) of Ethiopia, and giving her competition would be Christelle Daunay (PB 2:25:43) from France.

Fortis Marathon Rotterdam 2010 Preview

Rotterdam is renowned for a very flat race course which produces fast times year after year. The 2009 was a historic year, it was the fastest marathon in history considering the times of the top finishers. Duncan Kibet of Kenya edged compatriot James Kwambai in a charge to the finish line, both runners being awarded the same finish time of 2:04:27, becoming the second and third fastest runners after Haile Gebrselassie.

This year is the 30th edition of Fortis Marathon Rotterdam, and will see last years runner James Kwambai trying to get things right this time around. He will be challenged by Paris Marathon 2009 winner Vincent Kipruto of Kenya (2:05:47), and another sub 2:05 time seems probable. A strong field here with 9 sub 2:09 runners in the mens race, of which Patrick Makau (PB 2:06:14), Daniel Rono (PB 2:06:58) have the strongest credentials. Women’s field is led by China’s Zhu Xiaolin (PB  2:23:57) and Anne Kosgei of Kenya (PB 2:27.:46).
