Okay, that was a sad joke to put it lightly. However, 120,000 applicants will wake up to the reality of the NYC Marathon Lottery Results this morning, delighted for having made it, or dejected with a rejection. This is said to be the 4th year running that NYC Marathon has received more than 100,000 applications for entry to the event. About 43,000 runners are expected to participant in this years event, which makes the odd of lottery selection roughly 1 in 3, which is quite good if you look at the Tokyo Marathon field where only 35,000 made it out of about 2,70,000 applicants. London Marathon is another big race where the lottery system comes into play because of the huge interest.

Coming to the other big news, NYRR has confirmed that defending champion Meb Keflezighi, first US winner of this event in 27 years, will be coming back in 2010. 37 year old US Olympian Deena Kastor has also confirmed her entry and will be trying to get to the podium this year after a string of top 10 places since her debut in 2001.
