Kenyan Sylvester Teimet won the 81st Dong-A Seoul International Marathon 2010 in what turned out to be a closely fought affair with fellow countryman Gilbert Kirwa. In the process, Teimet also broke the existing course record of 2:07:06, winning in 2:06:49. Kirwa was just 10 seconds off to finish in 2:06:59. The presence of a strong pace making team from Kenya pretty much ensured that the course record attempt stayed on track all the way.
Fantastic weather conditions, and a miraculous improvement in the air quality set up just the perfect running conditions. Temperatures were reported to be around zero degrees C at the start and around 6-7C by finish, though the runners had to face windy conditions too. A reported 20,000 runners took part in the marathon.
In the women’s race, it was Ethiopian Amane Gobena who took the top position 2:24:13, followed by China’s Chunxiu Zhou, Beijing Olympics bronze medalist, in 2:25:01.
