It was a case of two debutants winning at New York City winning the 2010 NYC Half Marathon. In the mens race, Peter Kamais grabbed the lead at the halfway point, and then just kept going strongly to finish in 59:53, a new course record.
It was a case of not to be for Haile Gebreselassie as he stopped at the 9 mile mark due to an asthma attack. He continued later, but finished out of any standings.
In the women’s race, Mara Yamauchi of Great Britain took the lead from American Deena Kastor with a few miles to go and finished in 1:09.17 in what was a course record at the event. Deena Kastor led for most of the race, but was passed by Yamauchi in the late stages. Kastor finished second in 1:09:43.
