Conquering stiff competition, a new race route and warm conditions at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010, Kenya’s Cyprian Kiogora Mwobi repeated as Men’s Full Marathon champion with a winning time of 2:20:12 while Triyaningsih of Indonesia won the Women’s Full Marathon with a time of 2:47:35. In total, over 52,000 participants took off at the sound of the starting gun for the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10km races.
Mens winner Mwobi talked about the new route. “It was very tough,” he said. “The course here is tougher than the others I have raced, such as Dublin and Macao, and this year’s route made it even tougher.”
The race was run in very trying conditions, with high level of heat and humidity affecting the runners and the finish times. As many as 55 runners were taken to hospital with 3 reportedly critically ill. The humidity was reported to be around 90-95% and temperatures hovering around 25 degrees Celsius.
