CPC Loop Half Marathon at The Hague is that special marathon which will be remembered for Sammy Wanjiru’s current world record of 58:33 set in 2007, at least till the time that is broken, and which may not be anytime soon. The Hague has been a place for some really fast times, and some exciting marathon runners over the years. The 2010 edition was won by Kenyan Patrick Makau in 59:51. And if you think that there might have been maybe one more runner under 60 minutes, think again. There was a fabulous 5 runners under 60 minutes!!! Now this was some real competitive half marathon!
For the record, Makau is the second fastest half marathon runner ever after Wanjiru, with a personal best of 58:52 set at Ras Al Khaimah. He was also the winner here in 2008. This year’s course was made faster by the organizers by reducing the number of turns, and well, results are there to be seen.
