Feedback from Sunita Godara – Former Asian Marathon Champion
- Marathon Clinics – A great step towards professionalism/guidance involving former Asian Champions. It was really missing in India.
- Last clinic (5th in the row) the day before the Marathon was a great help to the novice Runners and for outstation village Runners.
- The loop course needs more “vigilant eyes’ of Race officials.
- The hand stamping should be checked at the end before declaring the winners to make sure of the correct start. Earlier yrs in your marathon noting down the Chest nos at starting was a good check. Instead of stamping You should start proper band system like few int’l Marathons in Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand. Which I already discussed in the pre event meeting.
- For the loop course it is advisable to have wrist band of different colours for all the rounds. So that time keepers at the finish can check the bands before putting the chest nos for the positions. This is a very successful practice abroad in the big Marathons.
- Starting all the categories separately was very good. But the time keepers also should be separately responsible as per the actual starting time.
- Timings of the start for a Marathon at 9am in Feb is not good for the Runners, For police to control the traffic & Road crossings. In the past your Marathon has a good starting time. 7am would be a comfortable time for every one.
- I found the police helpless at 10:30am to control the traffic and the hexagon circle at India Gate was a chaos and the public visitors of India Gate were really disturbing the Runners. At this time most of the Marathoners were completing their 2nd round.
- It was a shock to see the prize ceremony, Results at the end. Your marathon used to give lots of motivation to the top ten winners in the past in a very respectful manner calling them on the stage.
- I have noticed the open category winners 4-10 positions! Gone in suspense without knowing their results.
- Veteran registration should have age proof with the entry form and you may make a rule of checking the age proof before the prize ceremony. See we have handful of Top Veterans – if you make a rule all those who feel they are expected winners will bring the age proof and your team will be able to sort out the matter on the spot. Which I already discussed in the pre event meeting.
- It was a shock to see 1st & 2nd Veteran women names and positions in the women category in 21km.
- As all 21km women started together which was a small bunch of hardly 10 Veteran women and 45-50 open category.
- We are very familiar with the top 6 vet women marathoners from allover India.
- I would like to meet 1-2 position winners of Vet women who are not known to all other presently top veteran women of India who took pat in your Race- Myself, Mala, Amita, Rajshree.
- Please provide the details – Name, age, address & phone No of these two women who are unfortunately missing altogether from my Veteran women top list. I coordinate the top 6 winners – veteran marathoners from all over India and top 50 open category Runners for the big Marathons. I need to update my data list.
- I am surprised how could I miss these two as I lead the group of 21km women from the holding area to the starting line where we met all the expected Veteran winners, discussing their recent best timings and with flag off I recorded/counted Mala, Amita and a foreigner took the lead in front of me and Rajshree along with other Veterans were behind. This lead was maintained till the end at the finish. No veteran women overtook Mala who was leading the Race and myself who was comfortably running behind these three (Mala, Amita, a foreigner who trains in Nehru Park) till the end.
- Please feel free to discuss more to make this real marathon much better for the Runners.
- Please make sure that the starting time is not later than 7am to handle the heat & traffic from next year.

Tanvir, I would hope that this will be considered in time for October. I have just checked The Hindu online results and noticed that I came first in the Women’s Veteran race, and was not aware of this until today! I don’t know how to validate whether this is case. Can you please advise? Thanks
I took part in the half marathon race, having come from Chennai, but actually live in UK. How do I find out what my time and position was in both the women half marathon and veteran position. In respect of the comments already made – ditto. Good luck for the commonwealth arrangements.
Meena, you are talking impossibilities here. There was no timing chip, and except for podium finishers, nobody noted down anyone’s timings.
I agree with Sunita, there was a chaos in the begining when no one knew about the start, then the heat was too much & some segments of the route, runners were stopped for traffic to flow, no results of veteran announced, but overall it was much better organised the the last one,
