Chicago Marathon 2010 Registrations open

There seems to be a pattern to some esoteric dates. The last time was when Boston Marathon registrations started on 09/09/09. And though the Chicago Marathon registrations are not starting on a special date, but the run itself is 10/10/10. I guess the organizers generated an additional dose of public interest :)

So, what’s with Chicago? For one, this is a special race. It is the second largest marathon in the US, its field only being eclipsed by the grand daddy of marathons, the New York City Marathon. At the world stage, Chicago consistently ranks in the top 5, which really speaks a lot about its character.

From the event website – The registration fee is $135 for U.S. participants and $160 for participants outside the U.S. The field size will be capped at a maximum of 45,000 participants (wow, that’s one huge number, probably a record since the event saw about 33,700 finishers last year). Registration will close when the maximum is reached. I wonder what this really means, though given the popularity of the event, it will not be surprising to see the places run out in a couple of months or so.

Runners can register here on the event website.
