Just got a confirmation that the Chennai Marathon, organized by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), will be run on Sunday, Feb 21st. Yesterday, the event logo was unveiled by Deputy CM M.K. Stalin. This will be the 8th edition of the run, and as per the organizers, 30,000 runners are expected to take part (give or take a few tens of thousands :) .

Event registrations can be done from locations specified on the event website, Online registrations will probably not be an option. Register at below centers:

Run Infinity Recommendation

It is a tough call. On one side, the organization of the event is not great, in fact poor. Slower runners running the marathon would have a tough time with water and traffic. However, this is really the only big running event in Chennai, and Chennai folks are really really passionate about their running. So, I guess choosing to run the half marathon would be a reasonable choice for most local runners.

Most regular Chennai runners would be found at Auroville (Pondicherry) on Feb 14th for the Auroville Marathon, a very well organized marathon (registrations closed), great route, fabulous runner support. Outstation runners can probably skip this without any regrets. And if you do decide to run this, be ready for the mandatory medical test required by the organizers and conducted by folks who probably know the least about running. Slower runners should go for the half marathon rather than risking their lives at the full.

For all of you eager to register online, please wait, since this may take some more time from the organizers to setup. I would suggest going to the SDAT office in Chennai and registering there.
