Fantastic weather and a great scenic route (and not to forget, some great crowd support) inspired runners to some fantastic timings at the 1st Running and Living Chandigarh Marathon. Almost every runner I met at the finish line was doing a personal best – one of the main reasons being, the more popular marathons here in India are run in not really great weather (Mumbai in particular). Combined with an early 6:30am start, almost flat route, what more will a runner want!
Some highlights from the run
- Race flagged off by the Flying Sikh – Milkha Singh
- Total of 2250 runners, including 100 for marathon, 250 for half marathon and about 2000 for the 5K run.
- Dr Ashis Roy did his 101st marathon, wearing a BIB#101, of course.
- Organizers even announced the date for the next event, Feb 6th! Lets see if they would be able to stick to that.
- The route was beautiful, mostly flat with minor elevation changes at some points. Running besides Sukhna Lake, and on the well laid out Chandigarh city roads, was inspiring.
- Organization of the race was excellent, well manned water stops, Gatorade flowing freely at ALL water stops (I ran purely on Gatorade).
Results Summary
Marathon (Men):
- Mashresha (ETH) – 2:10:51

Half Marathon (Men):
- Boniface Wambua

As for me, I finished in a personal best of 4:10 (unofficial). More on that later in another post.

Bravo. Congrats on the PB.Chandigarh sounds like the Berlin of India. It can be a nice ego boost especially if battered by SCMM!
