This was the inaugural edition of the Chandigarh Marathon. The event was announced in mid 2009 by Chandigarh Administration, on rather the department of tourism to promote the city of Chandigarh, so, I did not have too high hopes for the event, since wherever the government tends to be involved with organization of sports events [...]

Deep Chand of Rajputana Rifles won the Men’s marathon at the Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon in a time of 2:22:33. The Women’s marathon was won by Shukanya Mall in 2:59:58. About 5,000 runners took part in the various runs. The route for the marathon was the same as that for the upcoming Commonwealth Games [...]
