Haile Gebreselassie continued his domination of the Dubai Marathon by winning it for a third consecutive time. And as before, whenever he comes over to Dubai, all of a sudden there is so much talk of a world record, as if that is imminent and almost expected. But like last year there were no records this time as well. Gebrselassie won in 2:06:09. The world record, set by the king himself stands at 2:03:59 from Berlin 2008.
The pace right from the start of the race was not close enough to the world record pace, and well, it may be said that Gebreselassie had to be content with the 1st place finish
. We certainly do not speak of many runners in this way, which indicates the massive legacy which he has contributed towards in long distance running.
