The 3rd edition of this beautiful and scenic marathon would be held on Feb 14th at Auroville, a quite little township near Pondicherry. The first Auroville marathon was organised to celebrate the 40 years of Auroville, and the event has not looked back since. The second edition of the run saw about 500 participants, and the event continues to gain popularity amongst the running community in India.
About Auroville
Auroville is a township which stands out as a model society. There ideals are captured in the following phrase taken from their website “Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity”.
The Marathon
The Auroville marathon is an effort of a few passionate individuals who have turned their love for running into an event which brings joy to all the participants, through the great efforts which they put in to meticulously cater to every aspect of the organization. Chandresh and Balaji are well known in the running community and this event is a true for runners by runners event.
The Route
As described by a fellow blogger, Arpit, the beautiful route winds through the pristine, untouched jungles of Auroville’s green belt – making this race a runner’s paradise. The better part of the race is run on red-earth tracks. This is what sets apart the Auroville marathon. No city marathon can provide such an atmosphere.

Run Infinity Recommendation
Auroville Marathon is arguably the most scenic and beautiful marathon in India. Though quite far from the rest of the country (being in South India), it still finds participants from all around, and my running buddies from Delhi can’t stop talking about this. Big Thumbs up for this event!
