Singapore Marathon 2009 Results: Kibet shatters record

Luke Kibet broke the course record at the Singapore Marathon, with a winning time which was about an amazing 2 minutes faster than last years time. In fact it was a Kenyan 1-2-3 as they sweeped all the podium places at the event. Kibet  clocked 2:11:24 which was almost two minutes faster than his winner timefrom 2008. The race was run in tough conditions with temperatures hovering at 31 degrees Celsius and 77% humidity.

Johnstone Chepkwony was second in 2:11:32 and Vincent Krop third in 2:11:49 seconds. In fact all the top three finished the run faster than last year’s winning time.

In the womens race, it was Albina Mayorova-Ivanova of Russia who took the title in 2:32.49.  Countrywomen Lyubov Morgunova was second in 2:34.49 and May Akor Beasley of the United States finished third in 2:36.44.

50,000 runners participated in the various runs on the day, including the marathon, half marathon and the 10K. Organizers are already thinking of increasing the field even further from next year with the great response.
