Just heard this great news. The plan to finalize the Mumbai Marathon 2010 route is taking shape, and the newly built architectural marvel of Mumbai, the Bandra-Worli sea link, is very much a part of it! So, come the race day on Jan 17th, the full marathon runners at the Mumbai marathon might as well be pounding through this unique piece of excellence and beauty.It would really be a crazy feeling running over the sea on this beauty. Unfortunately, this wonderful experience will probably not be available for the Half Marathon and the Dream run folks, since their U-turn come earlier and the route cannot probably accommodate the Sea-Link. All the more reason to run a Marathon
The sea link will definitely be a defining landmark of the marathon route, and something by which the route will probably be identified and remembered the world over in the coming years.
About the Bandra-Worli Sea Link
The Bandra-Worli sea link is 5.6 KM long, and is officially known as the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link. It links Bandra and the western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli and central Mumbai, It has come up as an alternate route to the Mahim Causeway, which was earlier the only link connecting the western suburbs to the island city of Mumbai, and highly congested too.

In a meeting with marathon organisers, government officials agreed to allow part of the event on the landmark. Use of the link will be charged according to rates decided by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. Recently, the organisers of a Formula One race had paid sports charges to the government for using the sea link … Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal also asked officials to come up with a concrete plan and route for the marathon, which will become a permanent feature in Mumbai.
