Coming up: 3rd Delhi Runners Half Marathon on Nov 22nd

November 13, 2009

The 3rd edition of the Delhi Runners Half Marathon (DRHM) monthly series will take place at Jahanpanah City Forest, a beautiful forested trail running route in the heart of the city. The event has been growing in popularity, with the first two runs in Nehru Park seeing good participation (about 35 in the August run, 84 runners in the September run). DRHM is a monthly group run of Delhi’s running group Delhi Runners.

Date: Sunday, Nov 22nd, 2009
Reporting Time: 6:15 AM
Start Time: 6:30 AM

Parking and meeting point: Park gate, opposite Don Bosco School, see map below:
Map: http://maps.google.com/
Loop distance: 6.79 KM

About the route (source fitho.in):
Jahanpanah City Forest at Chirag Delhi has a 6.7 km running trail in the middle of the south Delhi. Its a geat running location, considering that the forest is surrounded by really crowded, high traffic areas- Alaknanda, Chirag Delhi, Lado Sarai, Greater Kailash-2, GK-3, GK-4, Tughlakabad Extension, Saket, etc.

Its a completely paved trail, with markers every 200 meters. The main entrance of the Jahanpanah City Forest park is opposite Don Bosco school in Alaknanda. There is a small parking lot too.

A lot of the trail is covered in thick foliage- provides a good respite from the heat. The track has some inclines and declines also. Delhi has mostly flat running tracks. Uphill parts of the track really help to build those calf muscles. And we all love running down hill :)

Even though the run is labeled as a Half Marathon series, runners can choose to run any distance, just remember that the loop is 6.79 KM, and calculate your run distance accordingly (1, 2 or 3 loops). For runners intending to run a Half Marathon, its basically 3 loops.
