Portugal Half Marathon 2009 Results: Sang wins in CR

Silas Sang of Kenya battled compatriot 2009 World Marathon silver medalist Emmanuel Mutai for the title in the 11th edition of the Portugal Half Marathon. Sang won the race in 1:00:20. Both Sang and Mutai got personal bests. In the women’s event, Helena Kirop, also of Kenya, won in 1:10:26. Runners from Portugal were also in significant strength amongst the winners, with as many as 4 making it into the top 10 in Men’s race, and 5 in the top 10 for Women’s race, including 2nd and 3rd.

The Portugal Half Marathon ranks amongst the best of IAAF recognized events, with IAAF Gold Label Road Race certification. About 15,000 runners took part in this year’s half marathon. Complete results and timings on the official results page.

Top runner Tsegay Kebede of Ethiopia was also scheduled to take part but finally withdrew due to an injury. Kebede is the reining men’s World Marathon bronze medalist.
