New York City Half Marathon 2009 Preview

More than 10,000 runners will be on the starting line of the 2009 NYC Half-Marathon, in the 4th edition of the race. Some of the world’s best long-distance runners will duel on the streets of Manhattan at the NYC Half-Marathon on Sunday, August 16. The entries to the event had run out within a couple of weeks of the registration start. The race is organized by the New York Road Runners (NYRR) foundation.
Sunday, August 16 – New York CityStart: 7:00 a.m.
Finish: Lower Manhattan
Course: through Times Square in the heart of Manhattan, participants run through famous landmarks such as Central Park and Times Square. See

Elite Mens field:
- Defending champion Tadese Tola of Ethiopia
- Two-time IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships silver medalist Patrick Makau of Kenya (out due to injury)
- Three-time 10,000-meter Olympian Abdi Abdirahman of the United States
- ING New York City Marathon 2004 winner Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa
- 2008 Olympic marathon silver medalist and two-time World Marathon champion Jaouad Gharib of Morocco
- Top American marathoner and 2008 Olympian Ryan Hall will make his NYC Half-Marathon debut
Elite Womens field:
- World marathon record holder Paula Radcliffe of England (a late entry to the event)
- Two-time Olympic medalist Catherine Ndereba of Kenya
- 2004 Olympic bronze medalist Deena Kastor of the U.S.
- Half-marathon world record-holder Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands (out due to injury)
The course record for the event are held by Haile Gebrselassie (59:24), and Catherine Ndereba (1:09:43).
The run will be timed using the ChronoTrack D-Tag timing system, which is similar to the ChampionChip system. New York Road Runners is publishing
Daily tips for the event counting down from 10 days to go for the event.

Saw your message very recently on my blog. Thanx for writing. Lot of runs lined up this year. Today did a 10k – i-race at IIT mumbai in 49mts. preparing for kaveri trail 21k, then 42k amsterdam on Oct, 21k Del in Nov (should touch base then), 42k S'pore in Dec, 42k Mumbai in Jan….phew. Hope things fall in place.Need to get back to running

Hi Tanvir, I like your blog! I will be running the NYC 1/2 next week. I will try to post something here about the run next week. My husband and I are thinking of running Comrades next year too! Hope your back recovers quickly.
