Just got a mail from the organizers of the Hyderabad marathon. The event, as planned previously, is on August 30th. Below are details of the event, including registration information. I will keep this post updated as more updates trickle in (including route map).

The start point is KBR Park and the end point is Gachibowli Stadium. The full marathon starts at 5.30 AM and half marathon starts at 5.45 AM.

You can register online at the link below.
http://www.hyderabad10k.com/10kruns_registration.php

A detailed email on the route map, logistics and other details will
follow in the next few days time. Meanwhile, all the runners can go
ahead and make reservations for your travel for the event.

The registration fees for the event is Rs 200/-. It was interesting to see the organizers leverage the online infrastructure of the other Hyderabad event, the Hyderabad 10K and Half marathon, for their registrations. It would be great if all of this came together under one banner in the long run (or has it already?).

Update: more details on the event from organizers below:

We are pleased to inform you that the 2nd Edition of Hyderabad Marathon is being organised on 30th August, 2009. This edition has both the Half and the full Marathon.

This run is being organised by the 10 K Foundation and the Hyderabad Runners which are promoting running in the city of Hyderabad.

This is a run organised for the runners…by the runners.

Route:
We are happy to inform that we have the necessary clearances in place for the run and the link for the run route is as below,

Half Marathon:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3068674

Full Marathon:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3069533

The route takes you the through the new Hyderabad or popularly known as Cyberabad. It starts at the KBR Park, one of the largest green lungspace in the city and takes you through the IT district before we hit the Gachibowli where the runners will get to run through two of the scenic, sprawling and prestigious educational institutes – Indian School of Business and University of Hyderabad.

All the runners will finish at the famous Gachibowli Stadium which is one of the country’s best sports infrastructure. The route has a fair bit of ascent and descent but it is a rolling route. The gradient details are there in the gmap link. The route might undergo minor changes if there are any issues with the local authorities.

Aid-Stations:

There will be aid-stations for every 2 kms providing water, electrolytes, fruits and first aid.

Traffic Regulation:

The Hyderabad Police have agreed to support the run but have not been able to get complete traffic stoppage due to the numbers we have which is currently around 500. However since it is the weekend and in the early hours, we really don’t see much of a problem on the traffic front. Most of the organisers who have run on the route can vouch that the traffic will not be a big problem.

Registration:
To register online, please go to,

I love the name of the site. Now us runners need to clarify that it's a marathon not a 10K! (deviating from the usual — it's a 10K not a marathon).

Hi tanvir! Is any timimg solution or chip being used for this event?

Tanvir Kazmi July 27, 2009 at 2:08 pm

@Rajiv: No, I just had it confirmed that there will be no timing chips at this years event. Things may however change by next year.

Hey Tanvir,
R u running in Hyderabad Marathon? I will be coming from Mumbai.
Just wanted to know whether there will be proper milestone after every kilometer like in Mumbai Marathon, so that one can keep track how much distance is left.

Tanvir Kazmi August 21, 2009 at 11:35 am

@Purushottam: I will not be going to Hyd. But expect proper organization of the run, including distance markers.

this is a strange run where starting and finishing points are not the same

Hi Tanvir,
Hydearabad Marathon was organized really well. It started on time. Also they had milestone marked on the road. Had kept water and electrolyte after every 2 km. Also traffic was controlled near square.
I clocked 1:38:15 in Half Marathon.
This marathon is really worth to participate again.
Cheers!
