Update Feb 8th: Kenyans dominate HK marathon!

There were 51,272 runners in the full marathon, half marathon and 10-kilometer races – and 97.78 percent finished the race.

Half-Marathon: Men:
1. Thomas Kiprotich (Kenya)

Half-Marathon: Women:
1. Yiu Kit-ching (Hong Kong)

10K: Men:
1. Mark Ryan (Canada)

10K: Women:
1. Claire Forbes (England)

A record 55,000 people are expected to take part in Sunday’s marathon. Besides the Marathon for which 8,000 participants have registered, there is a half marathon with expected 14,000 participants and a 10K run with 33,000 participants. The half and full marathons will start on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, while the 10KM run will be along Island Eastern Corridor starting from Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. Full marathon will start at 8.00 am Hong Kong time, while the half marathon and 10K runs have multiple starting times based on individual age categories. Weather is expected to be good with temperature in the range of 17 to 21 degrees Celsius and high humidity is expected with breezy conditions. Pollution levels are expected to be on the higher side.

Greatest Race on Earth (GROE)

This run is the fourth and final leg of the Standard Chartered The Greatest Race on Earth marathon series (Nairobi, Singapore and Mumbai being the others). GROE sees international teams of four runners competing, with each member taking on one of the marathons — the winning teams will be the ones with the quickest cumulative times, and an opportunity to win the regional titles as well. The teams are divided into three regions – Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and North East Asia and Rest of The World.

The Indian mens team is at the top of the South and Southeast Asia region standings, with a comfortable lead going into the final leg over Thailand, with Sri Lanka currently third. Indian women are at the bottom of their region, standing 5th.

A total of 36 international men’s and women’s teams from 24 countries are participating and the current nations standings are as follows:

3. Australia
