I would say these are not very good signs as to how the marathon organization is going to turn out. Strange, because Procam seems to be doing it – I expected better – I mean, look at the Mumbai marathon – that was done pretty decently this year.

Yes, I know. It looks like its one step forward, and two steps back. Lets wait and see how things pick up after the launch.

It seems these organizers are either lacking enthusiasm or money :)
I am still hoping that they do something this month…

Tanvir,
Thanks to your blog, I have been able to keep track of the Delhi Half, its various starts (mis-starts :-) ), dates (non-dates) and also finally the registrations opening.

I have registered, booked my flight tickets and got in 15KM this week already :-)

See you in Delhi and thanks
Cheers
Mahesh

Hi Tanvir, I am a first timer and was wondering how does one get the chips for measuring the time? Neha

Tanvir Kazmi September 27, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Neha, the chip is provided (at a refundable charge) when you go to collect the running number a couple of days before the run at the specified location. The money (Rs 500 or so) is returned when the chip is returned after run.

Hey Tanvir,
Every year this is the time I remember you! It’s the delhi half time. Thanks for putting up all the info at your blog. BTW you may like to add “What I talk about when I talk about running” – Haruki Murakami to your running books collection. It is the best non-guide kind of book I have seen on running.

Thanks for the reminder Rakesh, I was thinking about this for some time, somehow had missed ordering it till now. Just ordered from Indiaplaza.

Tanvir Kazmi October 8, 2008 at 1:29 pm

Thanks Param, looking forward to meeting you guys coming Sunday for the 11K (thinking of doing 18K, will put in a few extra laps in Nehru park).

Sapna October 17, 2008 at 3:29 pm

One funny thing – Airtel is official sponsor and as per below page “The following facilities are available on the Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon course for half marathon participants”
http://adhm.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2482493.cms

This is called height of KAMCHORI. 919818222222 guys are not able to reply as they don’t know.

I am a first timer and confused without correct info.

one question: Can I carry my camera??

Tanvir Kazmi October 17, 2008 at 10:07 pm

I think I remember them checking for mobiles at the entry points last year, but I guess a camera should not be an issue at all.

skroderider October 18, 2008 at 8:07 am

Do you mean they were not allowing mobiles inside? while running?

Tanvir Kazmi October 20, 2008 at 2:17 pm

@skroderider: yes, that’s what I remember. I think they were doing that for security.

Tanvir the Garmin 305 seems to be very accurate, comparing with the offical distances. I have worn it over 2 marathons. The price on Garmin site is $299 , but I think you can get it for around $200, from other vendors. I will be in India in first week of December, let me know I can bring along one.
