After waiting a long time for the announcement, I finally got to hear about this run today. The 10K run will take place on May 18th (originally May 25th). The run is being organized by Procam, the same people who organize the Vodafone Delhi Half marathon and the Mumbai Marathon.

So, we can hope to see one of the most organized middle distance race for the masses ever held in India. Since there is a big total prize money of $150,000 USD, we can also hope to see some of the world’s best at this event.

I went through the online registration process. After my credit card payment was done online, the indiatimes registration website went down. Though the money has been debited from my account, I have not received any acknowledgement by Indiatimes. I tried writing to them, but they don’t seem to respond. What do I do??

@Manoj: You will get New Balance, Adidas, Nike running shoes at various stores in here. ASICS are not available. Prices probably around 30% over the US rates. I am not sure if you will find decent trail shoes in above (for e.g. there is this Supernova Trail, but haven’t really seen it around). Looking forward to having you here.

I will be moving to India (from Dallas) on May 15th. Do you think I should get a shoe from here (New Balance, ASICS etc. ) or some good shoes are available in Delhi. Normally prices for a proper running shoes are around $100 here! Please let me know the availability of TRAIL running shoes in Delhi.
By the way, cool site! I will participate actively once I reach Delhi.

Jyothi, you read the wrong post. This is the 2008 date, not 2009. The date is right on my 2009 India Running Calendar at:

Hi, Tanvir!

Stumbled across your site today. My father is running the 10K at this event – his first race..at the age of 70! I’m going to try follow along from the States using his chip.

Good luck on the run…

Hi tanvir,

thanks fr the response.
so hw do we carry water in marathon? holding a bottle wud b inconvenient or do we rely on the organizers to provide water along the way??

Reply

Tanvir Kazmi May 14, 2008 at 1:12 pm

Abhinav, was the entire run done without any water intake. For runs upto 5K, this might be okay, and with people with more running experience, even a 10K without any water consumption during running would be ok. But I would suggest that take 6-8 ounces of water 10-15 minutes before the start, and then keep drinking in small quantities at every 2KM.

Also, the day before the run, focus on drinking water very regularly, say every 1 or two hours in the day.

Hi Tanvir,
Thanks for the tip.
I posted this on Guru’s blog and wud like to have ur comment on it too..

Hi Guru,

Thanks fr the tips on running shoes on tanvir’s blog.
B’lore 10k wud b my 1st marathon. Keepin with the work schedule I only get to run at nights(which are quite cool in b’lore). These runs are quite comfortable but last weekend I practiced in day to get a feel of running in sun. By 6th KM i hd a very dry throat and was sweating profusely.
What can be done under such conditions?

I understand, delhi is too hot to train in the summers….anyways i am going for it, if somebody wants to join me i would be more then happy.

Tanvir Kazmi May 13, 2008 at 12:10 pm

Guru, I think I dropped out right after registering. Just could not focus on the 10K schedule in the summers here. I hope this event fits into the normal running season sooner than later (Oct – Mar). I have a friend here who is planning to go to Blr.

Are you or anybody from your group going to be in this race?

Reply

Tanvir Kazmi May 9, 2008 at 12:16 pm

Sorry for the late response guys…

@Abhinav, as Guru mentions, there are several online resources which can help you decide, RunnersWorld is where I usually find good info

@dev, online event websites are mostly out of date for some of the biggest events in India… we continue to hope for better things.

@Bunty, sorry, I do not have the roadmap. I doubt even the organizers have that :) , since they have not published it online.

And yes, 9:00 am start seems very late, even for Bangalore. If this was Delhi, the finish line would have resembled a war site, with many a valiant soldiers lying in the dust.

Hi lokesh,

Send a mail to sunfeastworld10k@procamintl.com mentioning your problem. Usually they reply back within 24 hours.

Hi guys,
Yesterday I made 2 registrations (one for me and second for my friend) from same credit card and they gave me same identification number both times while deducting the money twice. I tried to call their helpline number (23161416) but it’s not reachable. Can you tell me what should I do now?
Thanks & Regards,
Lokesh Sharma

By now all the participants would have got the confirmation mails.
They have updated the website with the race day details and everything.
Definitely it will be very hot to run at 9 am :(
I wish to go to the elite category next year :)

Update on timing

I guess it will be very hot and challenging at 9am.

Besides the online registration form, whatever is on the race website is essentially useless. In particular, it lacks most basic information such as location of the race start (i.e. where in Bangalore), start time, how to get there and a map of the race route. Sigh!

HI abhinav,
first of all you should do a self foot-type diagnosis called the WET-TEST. Then you can surf on the internet for the shoes for your foot type and buy them from the market. It’s very easy and very effective plan to a buy a running shoe.

Hi Tanvir,

Cud u give sm advice on gud running shoes..for if u visit ny of the reebok, nike, addidas etc stores, every pair u point at, they say its a running shoe..but if u dig a little there are no convincing answers..and what I read on http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/diet-fitness/tips-new-runner.html?pageNum=1
it mentions that expensive always dont mean better.

Ritsy, the timings for the run are not yet available. Given that Procam/organizers in India are not very eager about early starts, I would expect something like a 7:00 am start at the earliest. And, welcome to the world of blogging.

Hi Tanvir

Whats the timing of the 10k run? When does it start on the 18th may?

Hey Tanvir,

I think the date has been revised to 18th of May. I saw that when I was on runmaadirun.com

The accuracy is amazing, you can see the GPS data I gathered, I have placed the link on my blog. There were some underpasses during the run when the satellite link was lost but I now realize that the device adjusted to that vey well.

Great going Rahul! 4:29 is amazing for your first 42K! Congratulations. I have been thinking about the 305 for some time now… how accurate are these GPS devices with distance, what did it show for your 42K. I seem to have my Polar (non-GPS) go off by about by upto 5% at long distances.

Rahul Verma April 8, 2008 at 9:08 am

Hi Tanvir, the GPS data was gathered by a Garmin forerunner 305watch. I did complete the Paris Marathon in 4.29 hrs..

Rahul, sorry could not make it to Nehru Park this weekend, had to go out of town in a hurry. The GPS data looks good… what device do you use to capture this? All the best for your upcoming run! Do keep me posted on how it went.

Hi Tanvir, I did show up at Nehru Park unfortunately I could not locate your group. Nehru Park is a beautiful place to do a run, with all the essentials in place for good training including hills, joggers trails etc. I will hopefully link up with you in future, hopefully at Mumbai Marathon 2010. Lets hope I am able to finish my big run this weekend. Click this link on GPS data, satellite views of Nehru Park

Raj,

The website is totally accessible since the morning, I have visited it numerous times. Just click on the link provided and things should work. Of course if it is not working, there is a problem at your end, either the browser has issues, or your website provider (or company) is not sending traffic to that website.

Regards,
Tanvir

Hai Tanvi

Is the website is accessible? From morning I am trying but in vain.

Any other way left out?
